View Full Version : Lose a size in two weeks?

I keep seeing these Special K commercials about losing "up to a jean size in two weeks."
What the heck? I've been running miles every day for a month and sticking with my weight watchers and I'm not even close to losing a whole pant size. Wouldn't that be a LOT of weight for two weeks??

It doesn't work....trust me, I've tried. I've been eating mostly fruits, vegetables and some protein and can't seem to loose an ounce, it is so discouraging! I need to loose something before our cruise in a couple of weeks or else I won't have any clothes to wear and for sure they won't fit on the way home after eating all week non-stop! :rotfl:

I'm with you Tricia- all of this running you would think we would lose a size...but it's just not working like that! I would think to lose 2 sizes would be a lot of weight.

It's only 6 pounds, so 3 a week, so I really don't think that's alot. I never actually did the plan but I eat spk with stawberries 5 days a week and eat the snack bars and have maintained my weight since losing 30 pounds 4 years ago, but I also exercise 6 days a week and keep track of my calorie intake.

I thought it was 15 lbs to lose a clothes size? That's what my WW leader told me anyway??

That's what I always thought as well. Between 10 and 15.

I wish we could decide where the weight and inches would come from. Better yet, I wish I could move some stuff around...I'd be gorgeous! :rotfl:

I can tell you with me, its about 12lbs per size.

For me, even 5 pounds can effect my size. I carry all my weight in my middle. I am built just like my grandmother...straight. No butt, no hips...just boob and belly...
Let me tell you. Losing almost 80 pounds was the hardest thing I ever did. I get treated like crap a lot by other women because I am thin (women can be so mean lol) and those women have NO idea how hard it was for me to lose my weight and keep it off. It pisses me off! LOL
I still LOVE to eat but I have to be aware of what I am eating all the time because I gain weight so easily! I have found that if you print out a list of negative calorie foods and stay stocked up on those for the times you just have to snack, it really helps. When my husband and I want to lose a quick 5-10 pounds, we eat almost 99% off the negative calorie food list. I will make my version of cabbage soup from the 'Cabbage Soup Diet' (I don?t do the whole diet...I think it's crap) We actually like the soup lol - Sometimes we put a little Parmesan cheese on top and my hubby will add his hot sauces to his. Anyway, we replace as many meals and snacks as we can stand with the soup. A big bowl has less than 50 calories. I get loopy if I go without carbs or protein, so once I start feeling that way (usually after a couple days) I will start having a peanut butter fold over every morning (1/2 PB sandwich). As long as I do that, I feel fine. It is basically just replacing as many meals and snacks as you can with 'negative' calorie foods. If you really can stick to it, it is very cleasing. The soup is SO good for you with all those onions, garlic and cabbage. We also eat a lot of vegetables with fat free dip! It obviously helps that we both love vegetables. I still cook for the kids but it is quicker meals. We did this and stuck to it for almost 2 weeks before our trip to Chicago. I lost 6 pounds, he lost 9 and when we came home, we both had only gained about 5 back.
I have a stubborn personality, so it is much easier for me to stick to this type of thing. If I make my mind up to do something, I just do it. My husband has a harder time, but because he can eat as much of the soup as he wants, this actually works really well for him because he feels like he can eat a lot (dieting is so mental) ;)

Can you post the cabbage soup recipe. I made it years ago and really liked it too. My kids hated the smell of it. LOL Can you throw a few potatoes or rice in it for your carbs?

This is the one I have but I would like to know Andrea's version of it too. I think this is a great idea and I'm going to try it this week and see what happens. This soup plus vegetables, fruit etc.
CABBAGE SOUP DIET
Ingredients:
6 large green onions (1 bunch)
2 green bell peppers
1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (14.5 ounce size, diced or whole)
1 bunch celery, sliced
1/2 head cabbage, chopped
1 package (Lipton) onion soup mix
1 or 2 cubes bouillon (optional)
1 48 oz can V8 juice, or 6 cups water or light chicken or vegetable broth
Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.*
Preparation:
Simmer or slow cook all until soup is done. *If slow cooking, add seasonings about an hour before done. Eat all the soup you want, whenever you want.

LOL you beat me to it! Yep that's the official recipe.
My changes:
I usally make a huge pot so my amounts are always different. But I use a whole head of cabbage, more celery, extra regular (yellow or white) onions chopped, and a lot of fresh garlic and extra green beans (fresh or frozen...not canned). I usually go with a large can of diced/chopped tomatoes instead of V8. I also add a 32 ounce can of 99% FF chicken broth to make it a little richer and also because we like broth. Then I spice it up using a variety of spices (whatever you like). And, I make it the day before. It is one of those things that always tastes better after it sits overnight.
If it were me, I'd add the rice/potatoes to the bowls individually when I needed them as opposed to the whole pot.

Great...thank you.
Wouldn't this be a good soup to freeze in small amounts to eat before a meal to help fill you up so you eat less of the big meal and yet its very low in calories. You know when you go out for a fancy meal and eat that soup or salad before entree, you always fill up so much quicker.

So true! Soup is so satisfying! It freezes really well! I made too much last time and just took a container out last night to eat on this week. You know, because I just like the soup, I like having it in there. It never hurts to replace a meal with a bowl of it and save those calories ;)
Great...thank you.

Thank you...I don't think I will put the V8 in either because of all the salt and will also go with the FF chicken broth. I do have a head of cauliflower that I think I might add? I don't like green onions so I always substitute regular yellow ones. Yummy, I always liked this soup, I don't know why I didn't think of doing this...thanks for reminding me!!

I'm not a fan of soup...unless it's the creamy kind & lord knows that will not drop the lbs. Anyway, the only negative food I know of is celery....can you list your faves or ones that work for you?
Thanks

There has to be a "little" truth for them to be able to advertise it. More than likely they had a couple of very large people on the cereal diet, and recorded their first few weeks of weight loss, when the amounts would be greatest.
Also, a good portion of that is going to be water weight, from the fiber going through your system.
For those hitting a wall with weight loss, there are a few suggestions my trainer gave me.
When running, try to do intervals occasionally. by slowing down for a little while, then sprinting for a few minutes, it increases your blood flow even more, and gets your body out of the memory cycle.
Also, increase your fiber intake. Get as much fiber as you can through food, but if you aren't hitting at least 30 grams of fiber, take a supplement. I prefer the fiber choice chews for weight management. They are sugar free, and I take them instead of powdered mixes.
My biggest problem is my belly. I work out every day, and I've lost a lot of weight, but my belly is still there. It sucks cause I can feel the muscle tone under it all, but where all my stretch marks are from the pregnancies I have this layer of fat and skin that will NOT go away. It gives me a muffin top even though the rest of me is good!
Good Luck everyone. I know losing weight is really hard, but we are all on the right track, and with the support we all have we can do it!

Do you think it would taste good with vegetable broth instead of the chicken? I ask this seemingly silly question because frequently veggie broth is very strongly flavored and doesn't always go well with light flavored soups.

Sure, why not? I think you can pretty much do what ever tastes good to you? I might try that the next time I make it, it sounds good to me. Mine is simmering on the stove right now...I added sliced zucchini to mine. I hope it tastes as good as it smells? :D

The Taco Soup is off the dlwz site, here it is:
Taco Soup
This recipe was given to me at my W.W. meeting from another member
(thank you Barb) who found it to be delicious and low in points.
I have tried it and it is indeed delicious! Enjoy!
Makes (12) 1 cup servings
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground turkey (or lean ground beef )
1 large onion, chopped
1 pkg. Hidden Valley ranch dressing mix
1 pkg. Taco Seasoning mix
1 can Pinto Beans
1 can Chile Hot Beans
1 can whole kernel corn
1 can stewed tomatoes (Mexican flavor)
1 can stewed tomatoes (any flavor)
Brown meat and onions, drain. Mix Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix and
taco seasoning mix into meat. Then, without draining, add all of the other
ingredients. Simmer 1 hour. If you can find the reduced sodium taco
seasoning and the reduced sodium Hidden Valley it is very helpful because
of the high sodium count in both the seasonings and the chili hot beans.
This is delicious served with Baked Tostitos chips
(they aren't in the point count per cup serving).
SERVING SIZE: 1 cup soup
POINTS: 2
The Baked Tostitos chips are 2 points for 9 chips.
The black bean chili is off the back of a package of Butterball Lean ground turkey breast. I couldn't find it online so I'll have to type it out tomorrow.
