Anyone else planning on doing a 2010 Cruise?
Rumor is they will be releasing the plans on October 7 and booking on October 21st.
I'm watching anxiously as we are planning to have a BIG Disney summer 2010. Thinking of doing 2 cruises and 2 weeks in the parks to celebrate my oldest's high school graduation.
I have to get my butt in gear and do some serious SR between now and then. :sunshine:

We were just talking about this at dinner tonight. Both of us would love a Baltic cruise. Both of us would love a Trans-Atlantic cruise (coming back to the States). We don't know WHAT we're going to do...............

I would  to do the Trans-Atlantic too, but those fall during our school year so that's out. I'm a teacher and have two kids in school. I'll have to save that for the many many years when I retire. :rotfl:
I think I'd prefer the Baltic cruise, but I think Becka wants to do the Mediterranean and it's her graduation gift so we'll probably ultimately go with what she wants.
I'm thinking we'll do one of those and one of the 5 day Wonder cruises.
Of course this is assuming all the rumors to prove to be true.

i have started to think about dec 2010 during my son's christmas break.
i have checked the disney cruise line site and i haven't see any 5 day cruises. i only see the 4 day ones.
where are the 5 day cruises?
do we have a merchant that we can get credit back for taking a disney cruise?

i have a a friend whose TA is guessing that the Baltic transatlantic will be very attractively priced...also ventured that if they offer a 5 day it won't be:confused:
everybody has an opin...makes it fun to imagine what DCL will do to surprise us:D

The 2010 itineraries aren't out yet so there's a lot of speculation going on. There were some great sleuths who caught the Magic scheduled to be in various ports in Europe during the summer of 2010 and, I believe, in chatting with various officers some have come to the conclusion that there will be some alternating 5-day cruises on the Wonder (probably similar to what the Magic just did on Sept 1).
Keep your eyes posted on the DCL site!

Yea...there are some great threads over on the DIS cruise threads where everyone has been investigating and finding the "clues" they think lead to these ideas. We are anxioiusly awaiting Oct 7 at my house to see how many of our ideas become reality.

Right now, there are only 3, 4 and 7 day regular itineraries offered by DCL. Every now and then, there are special itineraries that they offer. And, be sitting down when you price a Christmas cruise. YOWZA is all I can say!!! :)

I know! DH really wants to go to the Mediterranean, and I loved the idea of doing it with Disney, but no way will I spend $25,000 plus dollars on a vacation, I am going to still look at Mediterranean cruises, but sadly I know now we won't go with Disney, unless I win the lottery of coarse.

I am sure you could do it somewhat cheaper, but if I am paying that much for a vacation I am not staying in an indoor room, and I was figuring in airfare too, but still that is a lot of money.

It sounds about right when I compare their base fares to the base fares of the cruise we are going on. Airfare is about $2k right now per person then you have to add on tips, fuel surcharge, spa trips, liquor, and then excursions. The only way I could do that cruise is in the inside stateroom. lol!
I think I'll keep going to the parks and enjoy everyone's pictures of these cruises.

Another big day for losses in the stock market - down over 700 points. Levels at their lowest since October 2004. Who is Sam Hill has $20,000 for a cruise?!?!? (except the Exxon CEO!)
I will do some window shopping but can't imagine jumping in if prices are sky high.

I'm so excited. Has anyone booked on the first days? I've read on DIS about the savings and the importance to get "great" rates...The Disney Website is showing ranges in prices and I'm wondering if we book on the 14th if we'll be getting the lower end of those ranges....
Assuming we're at least in the middle of the ranges, we are looking at doing 2 cruises...the 5 Night Bahamas one June 22 (though I told the TA if the June 8 was much cheaper to do that one!).
And then we're hoping to do either the 11 Night Med or the 7 Night Repositioning from Dover to Barcelona. I'm waiting on Becka to come home so she can look over the destinations and see which really interests her and then we'll look more closely at the two prices.
I too have to get really busy with my SR'ing and blogging. I'm going to put all of both towards Summer 2010.
This also depends on where we fall in the ranges too though..if we fall in the upper ends of all of them, this will be TOTALLY out and we'll just be doing one of the Europe ones.
To be able to take these trips, I'm also totally ok with inside "cheap" rooms....I have the same attitude when at Disney...I like the values. We simply don't spend enough time in a room to worry about paying more for them.

The ranges are for cabin categories. The lower end of the range is for Cat. 11 usually.

Yes...that would be your first instinct, but there are ranges inside the categories...
For example, on the 11 night Med cruise, for a category 11, the range is from $2,799 - $4,419. and then for Cameron the range would be from $899 - $2,959.
I'm drooling over the 5 day ones..now I just need to pick a double dip or Key West....

We'll do the Key West i'm sure as that summer will be about new places and new things.....so we want to see as many places as possible.
I vote you go the same time as us
my first pick is June 22...second is june 8

We did the Western and did Key West with the kids - there wasn't a whole lot there for them to do and we kept them away from Duval Street as the day got rowdier. We did go to the Mel Fisher maritime museum and they liked that, but it's not really a kid friendly town - but the grown ups have a great time!
I just looked at the itineraries and was reading the DIS. One poster priced airfare to Barcelona at $12,000 for her family of 5 from somewhere in Canada. Add that to the cruise and it was $20K. Thanks, but no thanks. That's 1/2 a year of college or a small car. :p
Think we'll be looking at the spring or fall of 2010 and, hopefully, get booked on another 7 nighter. MAYBE a five nighter in the summer with 9-10 days at the parks.

Yes, it's not only the cabin category but the date. For instance, the week around July 4th would be very high while the weeks when school is still in session might be the ones at the "low" end of the range.

Hey Kimberly... I just got the go ahead from DH that he would like me to book the June 8 five-day (want to go to Key West!). I'm hoping that sailing will be cheaper since there are some kids who aren't out of school around the country yet (tho' mine will be). I have to time our vacation so if DS' baseball team is in playoffs he won't miss that -- this one he'd just miss a regular game I think -- but also need to avoid football camp and the beginning of football season (with nightly practice). So much work to figure out vacation times now that school is more difficult to miss and having to work around sports in the summer!
Anyway, it would be awesome to be on the same cruise!!! I pulled the deposit together and am going to rebook on board in two weeks :D

You might consider booking on the day they open since the price is lower (either with a TA or own your own.) Then, when you get onboard, they can check the price and, if it is better with the shipboard credit/discount, they can switch it for you. If not, you've gotten the better deal. Lots of threads on the DIS about how that all works.

I totally agree about the room/value/inside thing but you just have to watch how far down you go with your category choice as you can end up near the bottom of the boat which can be underwater or very close to the water so you will feel the boat movements a little more.
When I booked my cruise for next year I picked a middle range interior room so I could choose between deck 6 & 8 which are higher up on the boat. I lucked out and grabbed one of 2 deck 8 rooms as that deck looks a little quieter for my specific boat.
Just put in for a quote for the 5 day Key West cruises! Mom might come, she's worried about the kids, but I pointed out there are adult only areas.

Tell her not to worry about the little ones. I swear they disappear once they step on the ship!

I was deciding between that and the double dip, but decided on Key WEst as it's kind of a PITA to get to from Boston.

Actually, the higher up you are on the ship, the more movement you'll feel. The least movement will be in the middle, down in the lower decks. We sailed Cat. 9 Deck 2, many times and had no problems with huge swells when the rest of the passengers were calling "Earl" over the railings. But, with the stabilizers, you won't typically won't feel much no matter which deck you're on (unless it's a rocky sailing).
I'm trying to pick a date for a 5 nighter (hopefully snag a SPH room) and then we'll hit the parks before the cruise. But, rumor is there will be a Southern Caribbean 7 nighter later in 2010 and I'd love to do that but DS will be in his first year of high school. It probably is just going to be too hard for him to take off anymore during the school year and we'll have to bite the bullet and pay the high summer prices if we want to sail DCL.

Shelly, take your confirmation # w/you next week and visit the desk on deck 5. They'll check prices and will cancel/rebook if you get a better deal w/10% discount and OBC. The deposit required onboard is the same but if book onboard, you get 10% discount and shipboard credit (not sure how much they give for 5 nighters)
Glad everyone's getting through

Thanks, Jamie. Will they transfer the deposit? That was why I just booked onboard, but if they only want an additional $400 it might be worth it. It can't hurt to ask!

yes, they will. you won't have to pay additional deposit the original deposit you paid will carry over.

Still waiting on my TA.
Yikes. Is it DU? Rumor is they would email everyone late last night w/ressie info. If it wasn't them, I'd be tempted to call to make sure you get in at bottom price.

uh oh. I agree with the others. After waiting over a week to hear from the one I was going to use after waiting a month before that I cut her loose and booked myself. It really wasn't all that bad either.
We can all help if you need us.

No, it's another specialist travel agency-see here's the weird thing-she sent me quotes, but not for my dates. I'll wait another day.

Hedy, you can book online yourself and then transfer to an agency if they can match/better your deal or give you OBC. Did you give her CC info. yet? If not, just go to dcl website and lock it in. Sounds like she's not on top of things. Maybe there are special rooms that are available (nav. verandah, secret porthole) and time's a wastin'. LMK if you need any help.
I HAVE QUOTES! Costs are pretty equitable..now I just need to decide when (I suddenly realized Ferdie will be finishing 5th grade that year...hate to miss anything important...)

And I'm squeezed in between the two of you (8/13-8/17). I'll be getting on the boat when Hedy's getting off and I'll depart when Eaglesdare is getting on. Who knows - maybe we'll see other at the port on the sidewalk?

Hedy, are you sure 8/8 is Key West? I thought that is the double dip to CC and 8/3 and 8/17 are Key West.

Hopefully! :sunshine: I'll be easy to spot...I'll be the one crying and holding onto the ship railing while DH drags me off the ship.
