Alrighty guys. It is October 6th and time to get going with our October Exercise Challenge. I thought a theme might be a fun way to get us motivated and moving. If you have any suggestions for future months please let me know.

This month I am aiming to lift weights 3 days a week and do cardio at least 3 days a week for 40 minutes or longer depending on if it is a weight day or not. So I hope to be in the gym 5-6 days a week. I am also going to eat more protein, less carbs, and more fruits and veggies.

Thanks for starting this Catherine! We're going to be at WDW on the 15th and sadly I didn't get to where I wanted to be (not that it will impact my trip lol). I just haven't been motivated to get started again. Then I started making excuses of not starting until after we get back. But there is nothing to stop me from starting NOW!! I have been down the last week or so and I know that getting back into a good workout routine will help me!!

I am going to aim for cardio 4 days a week and the Wii Fit and weights 2 days a week. Hopefully that will be easy and I can work some more into it.

As far as eating, I want to work on getting in more fruits and vegetables and lean protein. I've really been in the mood to cook and bake the last few weeks so I'm anxious to start trying some new recipes and find some good snacks to make!

Thanks for the motivation to get moving!!

Way to go Carla. I am going to start looking for the Wii Fit so I can do it at home during busy season. My mom was talking about getting the Fit for her for christmas so if I find one I might as well pick up two at once.

I started packing last night and of course I packed my pilates DVDs. I'm going to try and quickly find them tonight and pull them out for the time being.

Ok, I HAVE to be in! After seeing photos of myself on this trip, I have decided I MUST lose some major lbs before Dec trip!!

I'm in! I"m happy to say that since school started back I've been able to make it to the gym at LEAST 3 days a week sometimes 4!

Sunday's DD6 has swimming lessons so I usually try and get 30 mins cardio in, she was sick yesterday so we didn't go.

I did however get up this morning and get in 20 mins Stairmaster and 15 min run on the treadmill.

My goal is 4 days this week with at least 2 days of weights.

Nice thing about being sick 2 wks ago is I lost 5#'s and have been able to keep that off so now only 17 more to go! I liked this thread when we had it in August it kept me accountable.

Count me in (again)! After losing several lbs earlier this year, I bounced right back into bad habits and need to get off my rear and get moving!!

My goals this month are going to be at least 4 days cardio and 4 days on weights (2 for upper and 2 for lower). I actually started last Monday and lost 4 lbs last week.

My food goals are to continue to drink, drink, drink water. Cut back on snacking and more fruits and veggies. Also cutting back on alcohol ( umm Cate you might want to send me a pretend beer now and again on the football thread!:D)

Good Luck everyone!! Let's all keep each other motivated and get in shape! Hmm, maybe we should nominate someone to be our Jillian!:)

Yeah that cutting back on beer is really hard isn't it. I wish I could go on a beer diet. How cool would that be?

I was going to try a no beer rule for a month, but then I had to laugh at myself for even thinking it! During football season, I wouldn't last the first weekend. If we could only find that "magic" beer with no calories or fat, we'd be set!! A beer diet would be the most awesome thing ever!! Although I might end up a bit loopy.:trink4:

I started on Wii Fit yesterday in the balance games. I am very unbalanced since the accident.

I worked out 45 minutes and now hold 1st place in the ski race. Today I am going to do arerboic.

Is there any guideline or workout plan for Wii Fit?

Well I'm 2 for 3. I went again this morning, but not at my usual 530am time. DH works from home on Tuesdays so as soon as we put the older 2 on the bus I went to the Y for a workout.

I did 15 mins stairmaster, 25 min jog/run on treadmill and 20 mins of a lower body (legs) weight workout.

Ok...so this week isn't starting out so great! Seems my whole family has a cold and it hasn't been fun! Today is the first day I'm starting to feel better so that's good news! DH did say it could have been worse...this could have happened next week right before WDW!

If I feel up to it, I'll use the Wii Fit this afternoon. If not, I will definitely get a workout in tomorrow morning!

I am struggling with drinking more water. When I worked, I would always have a bottle of water at my desk and it was easy to get my quota every day. Being home and "on the go" so much, I am just finding it harder to get that water down. I really need to work on that! I do have my bottle of water right here while I'm SRing. LOL

Off to a good start here also. I was able to get in my cardio and upper training yesterday and today I did 30 min cardio on the elliptical and lower strength training. And now that I have a dog that needs to have his walk/run every day (and I mean NEEDS, otherwise he wants to play at 2 am) I've been walking/running/being dragged for about 20 to 30 minutes a day.

I must say that just after a week of being back on the exercise wagon, I feel so much better. I do have to work on the running part of my routine. I've had arthritis in my knees since I was a teenager and I can only run so far, but I can see a little difference in how far I can make it. I'm getting a little further every day. Hopefully the longer I keep up with it, the better it will get!

I've had no workout plan in the past. I hate exercise for exercise sake... Thank God for the wii fit... I've gone from zero to 20 minutes a day... I'm slowly building that up...
I love the boxing and step when I'm in the mood for cardio...and the yoga when I'm not...
For now it is just about building a habit... I love stamping the calendar... and how it scolds you for missing a day. (what will it say after my vacation in Disney?)
Good luck on the habits and goals...

I'm in!! My goal is to run at least 5 miles a day 4 days a week. Ideally, I would do some strength and cardio on those other 1-2 days. But if I can get in the run at least 4 days a week, I will feel like a success given all of the stuff we have going on this week.

I ran Sunday and Tuesday this week. I pretty much have to run both Wednesday and Thursday as well because I'll be in CA Friday through Sunday. I hate taking off two days in a row, so I am going to try to run as soon as I get to the hotel on Friday. I don't want to count on that though.

I have been doing good about working out but not about eating. I did notice that after my dentist appointment this week I did not want to eat junk. I am going to try to brush my teeth like 3-4 times a day so that I don't want to eat. :) I really really want to lose some for the holiday season! And then need to lose by January 1st fo rmy Disney trip. I am now running out of time and need to get serious!

Great job everyone (except maybe me LOL). I am definitely doing cardio tomorrow- I can't be left in the dust!! Luckily I'm feeling better tonight. I've lost a few pounds from being sick though lol.

Tricia- that's awesome that you are up to 5 miles- remember when it was just 3?? We've been running 4 on Fridays, 6 on Saturdays and somewhere between 4 and 6 on Sundays. Last Saturday we ended up going over 7 and that was tough!

This morning before I took DS to his gym class, we went for a 4 mile run. I started out telling myself that I was just going to walk, but after a short warmup I found myself running. Sometimes it's just that push to get out there that is needed I guess! This afternoon I used the Wii Fit and did about 30 minutes of Yoga and strength training and some crunches. I'm going to do some arm strength training in the morning since I didn't get to it today.

This afternoon I got in my upper strength training and then bumped my cardio up to 35 min. (gradually bumping it up-one day I'll catch up with you ladies!) Will take the dog for a walk later, so that will be another 20-30 minutes. I may even get the exercise ball out tonight while I watch football and get in a few extra moves!:)

Don't know if any of ya'll have Winn Dixie grocery stores where you live but for anyone needing the occasional chocolate snack they carry the most wonderful "diet" brownies you'll ever eat. They're called "No Pudge" Fudge brownie mix. They're on the very top shelf on the cake mix aisle, and in a pink box. 0 fat grams, 100 cal., and 22g sugar per serving. The only thing you mix in it is a small carton of vanilla yogurt but to make them really good I normally use raspberry or something like that. People can't ever believe it when I tell them they're "diet brownies" after they've eaten them. Here's a web address in case you don't have a Winn Dixie, and want to try them: www.nopudge.com.

I've gotta lose 5 lbs before Dec. Disney trip, and am going to the Smokies in 2 weeks. Kinda hard to diet there but at least I'll be walking alot. Can't seem to shake these last 5. Can't do much rigorous exercise due to bad knee from improperly exercising years ago but ya'll are inspiring me to walk more.

Thanks for joining in with us. I love the no pudge brownies but find I have to be really careful with the cooking time otherwise I overcook the outside rim of them.

My Kroger has them and Wholefoods has them. There are actually 4 flavors. I want to try the raspberry and the mint version but I just haven't yet.

Krutz has fat free brownies that are really good as well.

I haven't made it to the gym yet. I'm hoping Mike gets back from the Texans game at a reasonable time so I can go do my ab workout. Otherwise it is cardio only here at the apartment gym.

Well things didn't go exactly as planned but I did make it to the gym and power walked for 40 minutes last night. It felt pretty good and I was glad I went. The only bad part was I went at 10pm so I was pumped up and could never really fall asleep last night.

Two days down this week--got in my lower strength and 35 minutes cardio and my abs this afternoon. And of course dog walking later. I've been doing really well with my water so far and my snacking--even though there's a bag of my favorite chips staring at me ever since DH bought them.:headache: Will power Liz, will power!!

m 'n c
10-15-2008, 02:35 PM
Liz I can come and kill DH for you if need be. Mike understands not to bring anything tempting into the house or he faces certain death. He quickly took care of the chips ahoy this weekend by bringing tailgating with a friend. I am glad none returned at the end of the day. lol

Well I didn't make it to my gym for weight training but I did go to the apartment gym and ran a mile and a half. I did the last half mile at 5.7 miles per hour and felt like I was going to die at the end. I don't get why people insist on working out in there without the ceiling fans going to help cool you down but I just about pass out each time someone does that.

Hopefully I make it to lift weights tonight.

I hear ya I slept in this morning, but tomorrow is my 3 trips to the Y for swimming lessons, gymasntics and field hockey practice so I usually workout 2 of the 3 times.

Thanks for the "killer" offer Cate, but it won't be necessary. It was off with his head last night!:rotfl: Seriously, I did talk to him and told him that while I know everyone here likes their treats, it was not a good thing for me right now. If he wants to buy chips for the kids or himself, that's fine, just PLEASE don't buy my favorite, yummy, crispy, crunchy Kettle cooked chips! I put them in the pantry WAAAAAYYYYY back so I couldn't see them. But I am going to rip them open on Sat. night for the big event. And I'm only going to get a handful and hide them again, unless the game gets crappy then I might have to eat the whole bag! (So let us win, it's for the diet!!:D)

On to my workout--today was just a cardio day. I upped my time to 40 minutes on the elliptical and just to give it a little extra, I did 2 minute sprints every five minutes. Whew!! Already took the dog for his walk and I am excited to say that I was able to run about half the time! I keep trying to see how much further I can get every day.

Ok I'm proud of myself, first time in several weeks I made it 4x's!

I have a correction to Tuesday morning, it was actually the new machine that's a cross between the stairmaster and elliptical.

Wednesday morning was the stairmaster and treadmill. I was actually in the zone on the treadmill and felt pretty good. I did some lower body weights again and now my butt still hurts a few days later.... :)

today I only did a 20 min run on the treadmill while DD4 was in swimming lessons. I usually try weights when their at gymnastics but I'm catching a flight tomorrow morning for MA and I haven't packed yet so I am skippign this afternoons work out.
I know I won't be working out again until Sunday evening at DD6's swim lesson so I wanted to really make sure I made it 4 days this week.

Way to go April!!:cooldance:

I think I got out all my anger tonight. Instead of my usual upper workout, I put in the wii sports and did some boxing (yeah take that buddy!), then did 45 minutes cardio and my ab work. One more day and I'll have my goal. Of course, this weekend I'm afraid I might blow it. One of the doctors I work with is having a Halloween party and expects about 100 people and they supply all the drinks. If I go, I guess I'll have to get out on the dance floor and boogie a few hours.:D

WTG Jen! That's awesome!

I did workout Sunday for 30 mins on the Stair/Ellpitcal thingy. This morning I did 10 mins on the stair master and then a 30 min run. I felt really good on the run (treadmill) this morning and bumped the speed up a little. If I had time I felt like I could have kept going! It wasn't quite 3 miles (I think, can't remember) and did 25 quick push ups and 15 reps of curls and chest press. Was running out of time, had to get home to get the kids up and ready for school.

That's great Jen!!

I probably won't be doing anything this week--I've got strep throat and feel like someone ran over me with a truck. :( As soon as I feel better, I'll be back on the exercise track.

Guess I haven't paid lots of attention to the exercise part of the forums, but it is cool to have something like this to help keep us motivated! I've been working my heinie off (literally!:p) getting back into shape after the baby's birth in Aug. SLow going getting the weight off this time - still 15 lbs or so, but I feel good and strong, so I'm happy with that.
I wanted to mention this really cool new bike that we got at our Y to try out - expresso. It is an interactive bike, with handlebars that actually move, a gear shifter, and a screen with tons of trails you can choose from, with varying levels of difficulty. You can ride in the mountains, or by the ocean, or thru countryside or a city - about anywhere you'd want to! There's music, or a TV channel option you could choose to watch if you want. It also keeps track of all sorts of stats thru your ride - there's a pacer biker figure to help you keep your pace, too. It also will keep track of your ongoing stats (when you sign up and create an account) on the bike, and on online.
I've been riding it a lot - it really kicks my rear!! And talk about a sweat bath, whew-eee!!

Yay Jen for going and exercising yesterday.

Liz- hope you feel better soon.

I'm off the wagon right now but I plan on getting back on next week. Just in time for November! Can someone start the November thread for me this weekend?
