I can't believe I finished! It was way harder than I thought it was going to be. I have only ever ran indoors on my treadmill and well the least little hill outside is like a mountain compared to an indoor treadmill. But I did it and I finished! Now on to the next one in Oct. Yay Me! :cooldance:

Congrats! Its funny you mention a difference between indoor vs. outdoor running. I can definetly tell/feel the difference and I really can't run on ground like I can on the treadmill. I hope to work up to running on the ground outdoors.

I am still in my recovery phase as my shins really took a beating on Saturday. I went to a specialty type shoe store yesterday and bought a new pair of shoes based on my feet instead of the latest and greatest that Nike has to offer. I am going to give myself a few more days to let my shin feel better then I will start again and hopefully with the new shoes I will see a difference. The weather is supposed to cool down to the 80's late this week so I may be able to start running outside, otherwise, I plan on putting my treadmill on an incline and start running that way. My next race is going to be Oct 13. The Great Pumpkin race! I can't wait.

Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel. I ran all last winter indoors on my treadmill for 3 miles. In the spring I tried to run around the high school track while my son had lax practice and only had gone 1 1/4 miles when I had to walk for a bit. It was really windy that day and I wasn't used to it.
My goal is to run a 5k too someday!

Congrats on completing the run!!
I'm also a shin splints sufferer - have been a longgg time. I completely understand the pain you are working through. I hope your new shoes help solve your problem. Here's a website with some info in shin splints & over pronation of the feet. http://www.drfoot.co.uk/shin%20splints.htm
I have fallen arches and over pronate a LOT. Orthotic inserts have solved that problem and even help prevent other joint problems that occur when I run (bursitis in hips & knees). I have custom made orthotics, but - this over the counter brand: WalkFit Custom Orthotic Shoe Inserts (about $20/pr at Target) is my my comfortable inserts. If you find you are still having shin splint problems with your new shoes, you may want to purchase a pair of orthotic inserts to see if more arch support will help you.
