Some of you may know that I'm leaving on Saturday for San Juan. My DH and I are taking my Mom on a cruise for her 80th Birthday. Here's the problem: We are flying out of Hartford, CT and I have a good idea of what the weather will be like, but my Mom is on a non-stop flight out of Philly that same morning. We have it set up so that, in a perfect world, we will be arriving in San Juan about 6 minutes before her.

Looking at Friday's weather forecast, it looks like it will snow here starting around 6PM, but only a couple of inches. Hartford can probably deal with that. I know it's going to snow in PA that same day, but does anyone have an idea of the magnitude of the storm? I could change flights for all of us to Friday for about $100 a person in fees, plus I'd have to book 2 hotel rooms for an extra night if we go earlier (probably around a total expenditure of $600 to $700 total). I'd like not to do this unless necessary, plus I don't want to put my Mom on connecting flights since she's traveling alone.

Would you PA people be so kind as to update me? I can probably switch up to around 5PM tomorrow, if necessary. Getting my Mom to the airport will have to be dealt with if we go on Friday, also. Thanks for any help!:sunshine:

That's news to me and I watch the the news/weather pretty closely since we're a hockey family and always out on the weekends. Last I heard our temps were to be in the 40's and sunny.

I'm probably one of the closest to philly and the aiport at about 35-40 mins on a good no traffic accident day.

I'm pulling up WPVI right now to see. Ok watched the 5 day and they say "light" percipitation and that's it. 41 and party sunny on Friday 42 and Sunny on Saturday. Believe me people out here like to get hyped about snow and our weathermen do a good job even when were only expecting 3 inches. They only said light percipitation and moved on, so you should be more then ok to stay on schedule.

Thank you sooooooooooo much. That's exactly the info I wanted to know. I talked to my Mom today and she didn't seem to have any idea. My DH and I can fend for ourselves. I'm more worried about her flight. Keep me posted if you see any changes to that forecast.:sunshine:

Will do!!!!! I'm the type that really get a kick out it when they make a hype about it and everyone runs to the grocery store like their going to starve or something. We get 6 inches and they close school for a day... :)

If I hear it changing I'll definetly come and let you know.

I lol when I read this, I always think it's so funny when we get a little snow and people rush out to buy food, like they won't be able to leave their houses for a week or something. I saw the funniest sign a few weeks back when we were driving through Georgia. It said (Getting 1/4 inch of snow, do you have milk, bread, and toliet paper?):rotfl: I could not stop laughing. If they only knew what snow really is.

So, April, are you lucky enough to have to make that left merge from 322 onto 95? Oh, I HATE that merge so much! It freaks me out for days before I have to make the drive to the airport. :headache:

I've been watching the weekend weather as we're headed "down the shore" and I haven't seen any precip. for Saturday. Friday maybe some rain and a snow shower or two but I haven't heard anything about any accumulation.

So, I hope Mom gets out on time and you all meet up in sunny San Juan as planned. Enjoy your vacation!

LOL! I travel to San Francisco, CA semi-frequently for business (corp headquarters). One January trip, my co-worker and I left freezing cold CT and landed in CA with temps in the mid 60's. It was beautiful! We picked up the rental car, threw our jackets in the backseat, opened the sunroof, cracked open the windows and enjoyed the warm day. After several stop lights we looked around and realized people were looking at us funny...and we were most definitely the only ones with windows open! When we got to our corp headquarters everyone asked where our jackets were...we went out to dinner a couple hours later and everyone threw on their heavy wool coats and scarves - we looked at them like they were crazy and they looked at us like we were crazy. To my CA co-workers, mid 60's was FREEZING. And to us January New Englanders, it was HEAVEN! LOL!!

So Ma...will I be getting the dog for an extra day or not? Oh and don't forget her dog bed this time, and a toy...she likes to greet me at the door with her stuffed animals when I come home from work and she's been known to steal makeshift stuffed animals from your granddaughters (not like they can't spare one or two...or forty!).

Nope, looks like the dog will be coming as scheduled on Friday night. I have my Pennsylvania SR friends keeping tabs on the weather for me and my Mom. How could I go wrong with friends like these!:hugs:

OMG! That's exactly how we felt when we went to WDW in November! The first night there it was "the coldest night in FL since April" and everyone was wearing hats, gloves, heavy coats both Thurs night and Friday. We were walking around in jeans and t-shirts getting looks as we were giving looks.
It was hilarious bc to us the 62 high we had on Friday was PERFECT!!!!! :)

Ok caught the weather again this morning, it appears we're going to have some percipitation Friday evening into Sat. But it said a "dusting" for Philly and maybe a coating for further north. It'll rain a little also, so IMHO if I was flying out of Philly Sat morning I wouldn't have any concerns.

So, April, are you lucky enough to have to make that left merge from 322 onto 95? Oh, I HATE that merge so much! It freaks me out for days before I have to make the drive to the airport. No, I take 76 to 476 and it puts you right on 95.... Guess I'm lucky then?! :)

Thanks for the update, April. Sounds like the Philly weather will be better than the Hartford, CT weather. I think there will be 2- 4 inches of snow before it changes to rain. The Hartford airport usually has to get a lot of snow before closing down flights, so I'm not going to change anything unless the forecast takes a turn for the worse. You have helped to greatly ease my mind concerning my Mom!:sunshine:

Your welcome! Philly's problem is usually more the ice then anything. Last Friday we had 3 inches of snow, 40% of the flights were canceled or delay but it was due to the ice on 2 of the 4 main runways and de-icing the planes.

I'll keep an eye on it, but it really sounds like the dusting will be gone before we even get out of bed.

Hi, all! Any updates today? I'm hoping my Mom will miss the mess we are going to get in Hartford. It looks like 4-8 inches of snow, starting around 10PM and going all night. My flight out is at 7:30AM. That's a lot of snow for them to clear by then. Please keep your fingers crossed that I will get out without problems, in addition to my Mom leaving from Philly on time at & 7:35AM. I'm thinking a little pixie dust wouldn't hurt.:sunshine:

Ok weatherman at 6am this morning said that tonight after rush hour we should get a coating to 1 inch along the 95 corridor (Philly) my area may see 1-2 inches, BUT it'll turn over to rain over night so it all should be gone by morning. My son was all excited at the prospect of snow until I told him it would be washed away by morning. Good thing too (I'll be thinking of you guys) he has a 645am hockey game tomorrow morning, which means we're out the door by 6am.

Wow, I didn't know hockey games could be so early! Thanks for the update. I just called my Mom to tell her I may have problems tomorrow. I don't know exactly how airports do things, but I do know that our plane goes back and forth between Hartford and San Juan. It is supposed to get in at 10PM tonight, before much of anything happens here. So, since the plane will be there, I'm thinking the problems we'll encounter will all be runway and de-icing related. Unfortunately, there are no more flights out to San Juan after 8:20AM, so I might have to finagle a flight to Miami later on, then stay overnight and fly to San Juan in the morning. I'm sure things will work out. One way or another, I'm heading South!:sunshine:

OK...just watched the Philly noon newscast. Here's the scoop:

Increasing clouds today with late snow/rain overnight. One inch or less accumulation and maybe see some rain overnight. High tomorrow 41 (32 overnight).

Looks like Mom should be "good to go." Hope you guys get out on time too.

Sounds wonderful! Thanks so much! My biggest concern is my Mom. My DH and I can do "whatever" to get to San Juan, and I'm afraid that's what I'll do. Luckily, my Mom is very healthy and mentally sharp for 80 years old. Although I'd like to meet her at the airport, she is quite capable of getting a taxi and getting to the hotel herself. Also, we can get on the cruise ship as late as 7:30PM on Sunday. This is exactly why I always like to go the day before a cruise during the winter. Middle Atlantic and New England weather is so unpredictable.

Yeah your mom is fine, she shouldn't have any problems getting there.

I don't mind 645am hockey games when their home!!! It's the 7am ones that are an hour away (and you have to be there a half hour before to get dressed etc) that get me! :) That's better then DH's times. He plays in a men's league and their games are 1045-1115pm at night. He doesn't get home until 2am!

Flight updates...for you gals that have been helping my Mom out this week!!

Nana's plane is in the air and scheduled to arrive in San Juan on time. :cooldance:

My Mom & Dad's plane out of Hartford pushed away from the gate about 45 mins late and is still parked on the runway for takeoff (ugh). The good news is that it SHOULD take off...albeit late, but hopefully Nana will still have the luxury of waiting for them at baggage claim.

Oh and Holly, the dog, is adjusting well and feverishly guarding her pink fleece octopus from Henry...who thinks it's his. :rotfl:

My pleasure Shelly - thanks for thinking of them!

All should be perfect for them - their flight finally took off from Hartford about a 1/2 hour ago, so 2 hours late, but hey...2 hours late is better than a cancellation! Nana will probably arrive 1 1/2 hrs before them, but that's not an unreasonable time to wait...she can get some lunch and relax.

Funny little update on Nana...

As I mentioned in my last post, Mom & Dad were 1 1/2 hrs behind Nana's plane landing. When Nana landed in San Juan I called to let her know how far behind their plane was...if you remember Spring's earlier posts, she was concerned about Nana being by herself...yeah well, no worries...Nana found a casino in the airport and hit $350 on a nickel slot machine! :rotfl: So much for worrying about her!! Old ladies attract to slot machines like flies to honey! LOL! Mom/Spring met up with Nana in front of the casino and their vacation is well underway now.

Yeah, well as it turns out, my Mom ended up with over $400 in winnings because she hit on another machine! I wish I had her touch. I landed 2 hours late in San Juan, only to find my Mom in the casino. I'm thinking she wasn't too worried!

Anyway, our 2 hour delay in Hartford awaiting deicing is long gone, and here we are in sunny San Juan, 82+ degrees and SUNNY! Quite a culture shock from leaving in a snowstorm.

We get on our cruise ship around 1PM today. I'll talk to all of you in about a week, when I get back. I'll be thinking about all of you.

Thanks to everyone for their help with weather updates and such. There isn't anywhere online where you can find this kind of support.:sunshine:
