Ok it looks like a tight race but there seems to be interest in both MOA and Boston. My suggestion is to make one in both places...with different people planning it.

I would be happy to put together the MOA one...do we have any volunteers on the Boston side? Maybe we can work together and pick different weekends in case somebody wants to attend both. I know somebody mentioned the beginning of August for Boston when Cindy will be there but somebody should check to see if she will have time to meet - I believe she is there on SR business.

I am looking at a Friday-Sunday. Angela, you had said your kids start school on 8/17 but that is a Saturday so I am guessing it is the 19th?

I am making it a 3 day trip because I will be taking DH with me. I figured while I meet the SR girls, I can let him loose in the mall. You can make it into any size trip that is good for you.

Let me know what you all think...

Yes...it is the 18th. Sorry, I misstyped. I am very excited about this! I am thinking Dh would like to go. He wants to ride the roller coaster inside.

Whoops I mistyped also...I meant the 19th also.

Wondering if the last weekend of July is better? It might be for me.

The last weekend in July may work for me. DS has a basketball tournament in the Fort Wayne area from Wed. 23rd - Sunday 27th. I could go for the 1st couple days and then see if my best friend wants to join me for MOA. It may work.

Janet, just pick a weekend that is good for you, and that is the weekend we will do it.

I'm not a good one to organize things like you are Janet, but I wanted to let you know that a couple of us were chatting about meeting with Cindy Saturday August 9th in Boston, afternoon or early evening. I was hoping our Boston contingent could find a nice place to eat within walking distance of the Seaport Hotel. Check out the Jet Blue thread.

I don't remember who I looked at...I did kayak.com. It lets you look at a lot of airlines at once.

As for hotels, I am waiting for Jen to report back for us.

WOW!!! Airfare is crazy to get to MOA! I thought about flying, but I may be driving! Is there a certain airline that is cheapest for that area?

I will be looking at the hotels near MOA. I know there is at least one LITERALLY across the street from one side of the mall. Otherwise there are many nearby. I haven't looked into them yet, but I will this weekend I promise!!

I'll start w/looking at what you could get credit from SR for.

Angela-
NWA or Sun Country are based here, so those may give you better rates than other carrier. MAY being the key word. :0)

Do you all know which website it is to see how much gas it may take/cost for trips? Someone mentioned it once or twice, but I cannot remember. I think flying - at least for now- is out. It would cost almost $1000 for both Bethany and I to fly to Minneapolis. OUCH! So it looks like I might be driving, unless some major deal comes through!

Keeping an eye on this thread in case I get a wild hair at the last minute and decide to join, LOL!

I stayed at this hotel last time (only time!) I went to MOA. It was really nice and had a kitchen!

Angela, the way I always budget fuel is to go to mapquest and figure the mileage from your house to MOA and back, divide by the MPG your vehicle gets, and multiply times the cost of gas.

For example: if it's 1000 miles, and your car gets 20 miles to the gallon, you would need 50 gallons at $3.50 per so your fuel cost would be $175. That's really rough but gives you an idea.

Have fun planning, ladies!!

MOA is exactly 700 miles from my home. Which would make it 1400 miles round trip. I should get around 18 miles per gallon. That is about 78 gallons of gas. If it is $4.00 per gallon (which is what they are saying it will be this summer), I am looking at $312 in gas, right? So in order to fly, I would have to find tickets below $200 each (considering driving to and from airports) to even it out. Right now it is about $450 PER person. I thinks I will be driving! However, it would be so much more convenient to fly....but not for that price.

Any takers on the Boston meet (to organize?)

I'd be happy to organize the Boston meet. I'll try to throw a thread up about it sometime this weekend. I believe we're trying to coordinate Saturday Aug 9th as our official date...and Long Island isn't that far from Boston Janet...I'd be happy to pick you up at the ferry in New London (hint hint!). LOL!!
