I would like to, this one is more doable and probably cheaper.... But It'll have to wait as the time gets closer. Heck I may be able to fly cheaper then taking Amtrak??

I bet so! I see frequent Southwest DINGS from Philly to Manchester, NH for like $38 each way. Manchester, NH is an easy airport and an easy drive into Boston. Just an idea for you!

yeah I have to set the ding up. Manchester was where I was going to fly into last Oct for a meeting, but had to cancel with my grandmom being sick and our WDW trip in Nov. My ? is how close is that to where Cindy and you guys are? Would I be able to swing a ride?? vs renting a car/public transportation

Hey Kathie...want to ride up together???

April, Cindy is staying in boston, so BOS is the closes airport. However, if you get a DING fare on Southwest, MHT is the Manchester, NH airport Lori was talking about.:sunshine:

BTW, just for giggles, I looked up the present fare for flying in August 9th. The cost is $154 R/T for a Wanna Get Away fare at present. This is a special fare, but not a DING fare. You would arrive at the airport at 10:50AM and fly back out at 7:55PM. Thought this might help you while looking at Amtrak fares.

For anyone who wants to fly into Providence RI (actually Warwick) instead of Logan I'd be willing to pick you up at the airport.

You can even stay over if you like.....I have a guest room. Queen bed, sleeps 2, non-smoking. :rotfl:

Although I'm scheduled to be picked up by Pat & Lori, I can always drive if we need to fit more people. I have an SUV that fits 5.

So keep that in mind when looking for flights.

If you are taking the train or the bus it's better to go right into Boston.

I'm heading to Boston next week.......I'll check with my mother's nurses and see what they can recommend in the area of the hotel.

Kathie, that's really nice of you!:sunshine: Lori and I were talking about the possibility of taking the T (subway/surface train, for you non-New Englanders) from Quincy (or is Quincy Adams?) because the parking is so much better there. Also, Lori's van fits 7 people. I guess we should check into parking in Boston, also, especially near Cindy's hotel. I wonder how close it is to the T. If it's close, we could go anywhere in Boston without problems. I'll have to do some research. Bostonians (or "Massachusettsians"), please feel to chime in!

spring

Okay, the Seaport Hotel is located on 1 Seaport Lane right by the World Trade Center. The T station start could be Quincy Adams Inbound on the Red Line, switching at South Station to Outbound on the Silver Line. That takes you right to the World Trade Center stop. The times below were just the times when I did the search, so don't pay attention to them. I left them in because they give good approximate times for arrival. I didn't copy Itinerary 2 because it involved switching to a bus, I think.

Itinerary 1 - Approx. 35 mins.
Take Red Alewife To South Station view route
Approx. 12:59 PM Depart from Quincy Adams Station - Inbound
Approx. 1:22 PM Arrive at South Station - Inbound
Sl1 - Logan Airport view route
1:30 PM Depart from So Station Silver Line (outbound)
1:34 PM Arrive at World Trade Center Sta (outbound)
Cost: Regular fare Senior/Disabled fare
$2.00 $0.60

Update: The Silver Line is actually a bus that runs underground in a tunnel, just like the T. It is supposed to be easy to find when you get off the T in South Station. By running underground, there is no traffic to contend with. The World Trade Center Station is the 2nd stop on this line.

Here's what I found for parking at Quincy Adams:

Quincy Adams Spaces: 2,378
Accessible: 29
Bike: 64
Zipcar: 2 Type: Garage
Rate: $5.00 Map LAZ Parking
(781) 794-1791
www.lazparking.com

There is also parking at Quincy and Quincy North, if you prefer.

Update: I called the Seaport Hotel in Boston. Parking is $9 and hour, or $18 for up to 10 hours. It is located right in the hotel's garage.

If we take the train in, this is definitely my favorite place to park - clean, spacious, CHEAP, and easy to get to. I'm happy either way - driving in or taking the train in. Whatever works for everyone.

I'm ok with anything, as long as I don't have to drive into Boston!;) I actually don't generally mind driving anywhere, including into the city, but for some reason, Boston has always made me nervous! So whatever you guys decide is fine by me!:):)

I am signed up for Southwest Ding through both Providence and Manchester. Lately there have been very few Ding fares in or out of Providence. (actually Warwick but listed as Providence...doesn't make a difference to anyone who doesn't live here.) Southwest has gotten really popular in Providence and most of the flights get filled up. It is generally cheaper lately to fly into Manchester.....although the enticement of a free place to stay might sway someone into flying into Providence!!!;)

You will more than likely get a better rate flying into Providence than Boston unless you can get a great rate on JetBlue or something like that....although keep checking, because things always change!

You could also look into Amtrak pricing, but they aren't cheap, LOL. The closest train station to me is New London, CT, but it also goes to Providence and Boston. The benefit of going stopping before Boston is that you can ride in with one of us. However, if you are staying the night, you'd probably want to go straight through to Boston.

Amtrak - Phila to Boston is $76 RT 5 1/2 hrs
Southwest Phila to either Prov or Man - $130 RT 1 hr 20 mins
Leaving sometime Friday and coming back late Sat even. The prices at the Seaport are more then transportation at the moment.

Still working on it...... So what day is the "meet" supposed to be? Do we have some sort of schedule yet?

I thought I did on my desktop downstairs but I'm not sure it's working right. I'm going to install it on the laptop now.

My other thought was, i could probably drive DH's car (nissan stick shift) which gets great gas mileage and it would be cheaper then Amtrak and probably slightly less time.

Cindy said Saturday August 9th would be the best day for her to meet with us.

I have a code for 20% off Amtrak into Providence. There are also other codes for to/from MA and to/from Philly.

There are too many to list here so I will PM you the link. With the RI code you have to call the 800 number. Looks like you can use the MA code online. I just booked RT for DH and I from Providence to NYC. $100 each round trip.

Come up early Saturday and stay here. I will get you to the airport or train station early Sunday morning........They'll hardly know you were gone.

I just may take you up on that! :) Your so sweet to offer, and I'm no crazy either... Now how to approach DH..... I'm trying to see if I can work in some business (volunteer) while I'm up there. My ARC is in NH, but I have RI as the state I cover. If I did that I would try to come up on Friday morning to work in some meetings first.

April............

I will have a bed open as well...........and I am close to NH for appointments and not too far from airport. I believe Marilyn will be meeting at my house (and is also welcome to stay....I think I may have mentioned that to her before...if not the invitation is out to her as well)

We could take the train into Boston and home that night...........oh how I love not to have to be a designated driver........we would have one built in!!

I did a little restaurant research. There's a restaurant in Cindy's hotel (higher end restaurant or a bar menu option too...I'm game for whatever people want) and there are a few within walking distance. Seafood and Italian seem to dominate.

Salvatore's: http://www.sals-pizza.com/images/SalvBostontakeout.pdf
Legal Seafood: http://games.legalseafoods.com/ltk/menu.pdf

Feel free to yay or ney the above options - just throwing them out there; haven't been to either.

Wow, I can't believe how much Legal Seafood's menu has changed. Many years ago I went there (my DH LOVES seafood, I'm not a fan), and the only entree without seafood was a very tasteless chicken breast. Looks like they have something for everyone, now.

Is Salvatore's only take-out or can you eat in, too?

I'm up for anything. I'm even happy to eat at Cindy and Angie's hotel. I'm just happy to have this chance to get together!:sunshine:

I'm game for anything. If memory serves, the Seaport/convention area where their hotel is located is kind of out in the middle of nowhere, right? Across the bridge, roughly in the area of the Children's Museum I think?? Are there any water taxi's, like near pier 4, that would easily hoof us over to the North End wharf area?

I believe the USS Constitution is over in Charlestown (not too far away...can use public transportation...or if you play your cards right if my dad picks you up at the airport he could show you where it is!) and the Cheers bar is near the Boston Public Gardens, which is not exactly close to you, but is also not very far....Boston is a small city!

Ok, so we're up to 14 tentative people, which is fantastic! However...finding a place for 14 people (give or take) to eat dinner via walk up will be impossible. So we really need to put our noses to the grind and figure out the details and make some reservations. Here's what we need to decide on:

meeting time (Figured people would want to meet up and chatter before heading off to dinner. I'm thinking 3-4pm?)
meeting place (Cindy's hotel? Another place closer to a T-Station?)
dinner place & time

Another thought - perhaps we should consider taking the details off the public forum atmosphere. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I was starting to think it might not be a good idea to publicly disclose those details (since anyone in cyberspace can read this forum). We could move it to PM's (and send a TT to Angie/Cindy to get the details to them) or I could create a private Yahoo Group where we can trade cell #'s and lay out our plans. (or is there a private area in SR to do that - I'd rather keep the details on SR if it's feasible). What do people think? Am I just overreacting? I'm open to any suggestions and feedback.

Everyone was lovely, it was nice nice to meet everyone!

I also took this picture so the boss could see what Cindy was doing on her "business trip*" Marilyn made us cute meet pins, Cindy had boatloads of SR swag, and Pam brought local candles.

*Ok, the guy was trying to help Cindy's friend get un-lost, but it's still a funny picture. Be glad I did not take a picture of half-naked dude that kept on poking his head out of his window.

By the time I got home last night, Heather had already posted the first few pictures. You work fast, Heather!:D I had a wonderful time. I think we all got along beautifully. Even though I was meeting everyone (except my daughter, lol) for the first time, it seemed like I "knew" everyone.

I have a few pictures, but since I'm at my weekend camper, I won't be able to download them for a few days. However, cameras were flashing so I don't think I have any new and different pictures - except for one at ~Kathie's house. I'll definitely have to share that one.

Jen, I have never posted my pic before, so it's funny that you pictured me this way. Hope I didn't scare you............:rotfl:

It's funny when you meet people that you have chatted with online for the first time, you feel like old friends. We all got along great. Especially the 5 of us that drove from CT and RI.

A funny side note. DH found a wonderful antique picture for sale on Craigslist. We use the pictures as decor in the restaurant and this would be perfect He called the gal and made arrangements meet her in a public place to look at the picture. Last night he and I were talking about how you have to be so careful with meeting people like that, and then got on the subject of meeting people from the internet. His comment was, "Only MY WIFE invites internet people to our house!!!" Not the first time I have done that.

Thank you to Pat and Lori for picking us up and for guiding us through the maze of the Boston subway. Didn't help that the subway line we had to take was closed and we had to go a different route. They never lost their cool and got us there and home. Thanks Lori for driving. It was a great adventure.

I forgot to mention that we talked about shoes and I did find a couple of brands (on other's people's feet :rotfl:) that I will have to investigate.

While walking to Mike's Pastry we did pass a shoe store that was having a sale. Like all good, loyal, dedicated friends, the Boston contingent surrounded me and blocked my vision so I wouldn't be tempted to shop without going through SR. I did get a peek, but nothing that I couldn't get cheaper on Shoebuy!

Most of my pictures were duplicates of what everyone has already posted. Here are a few different ones.

I have to agree with what everyone has said........it was like meeting up with old friends.....I did feel like I knew you all because of SR posts, etc.

I had to laugh this mornining.....my dd8 (sydney) came home from her dads and the first thing she said to me was "how was you GNO?" and I sort of scratched my head....and then like a good mom who has to suffer through listening to Hannah Montana all the time, I realized she was asking me how my Girls Night Out (GNO) was!!!! I had a good chuckle with that!

Leslie...hope your dd is okay.....hopefully something ice and rest will fix!

As for Cindy and Angie ......I don,t think they will have any rest during this visit to Boston...boy are their schedules jammed with all kinds of meet and greets, dinners, cruises...etc.....and good luck to Angie keeping up with Cindy...she is one hot pistol!

My dad also mentioned that he enjoyed meeting Marilyn, Cindy and Angie (also Corrin)....he enjoyed being able to see what Sunshine was all about....and he even mentioned to Cindy that she needs to get some specific vendors for car stuff (I had to laugh at this....I told him she doesn't have a computer chip installed in her head yet, so she can't just pull ou that random informaiton.....NOTE TO TRICIA: look into computer chips for employees:D:rotfl:)

Leslie...how is you DD doing today? Kathie....you are so right they always wait til we're gone. They have great timing.

Pam...I loved meeting your dad also. He was our guardian angel.....even better.

I agree with everyone also. I love being able to just sit down, walk around and just gab. It was great to talk about things we already knew and still get to know each other better. I really enjoyed laughing with you all.

Kathy...thanks for the pics. There is my blue moon. Kathy brought tears to my eyes. :)

Pam...so true...the three of them are going to be quite busy. I can't wait for the highlights.

Just reading this thread and laughing about how much fun we had. We truly were like old friends and couldn't talk enough, there was so much to say.
Pam...thank you and Daddy for picking us up...twice. LOL. Hes a hoot. He really opened up the second time around.

To all of you, thank you for the great gift. Funny how you all thought wine...hmm..... The molasses cookies have also already been broke in to. We are saving the Rose Regale for when Tricia arrives. You guys are great, and you didn't have to do that, but it was very nice, and very much appreciated.

Each and every one of you were fun to chat. The long walk was neat to see things that we normally wouldn't have, even though we did get lost.

This truly is a great community of folks, and anyone who doesn't participate is really losing out and some great friendships.

Thanks everyone for asking about dd's foot. I feel bad...she is hobbling some. She is also quite bruised, but not swollen. When I got home last night she had the ice pack on her foot, and she has been taking Advil all day today. Not sure if she jammed it or maybe even broke it, it is very sore to the touch, but like I said, not swollen. Anyway, not much you can do for a pinky toe anyway regardless. I hope it's better by midweek when her play open so she's not hobbling then!
