We are working on our route from Kansas to Disneyland. We are National Park junkies, so one of several parks we're stopping at is Channel Island National Park.

Anyone been here? DH would love beach front lodging, but the budget minded wife (me) has a hard time spending more than $100 a night at a hotel, and I get VERY excited at a $50-60 rate. Anyone have any expert advice here?

I'm sorry, I don't have any advice, but it sure sounds great! We love to stop at the National Parks as well while traveling. I'm a road trip kinda gal. I love all of the fun and sightseeing that can only be done via car!

I think we're visiting 5 national parks on our way to and from Disneyland this summer, 4 of which we haven't seen before.. so it should be fun.

Usually we stay in the park, which isn't possible with Channel Islands.

sorry, never heard of the Channel Islands....where are they? But I just had to say I love the pic of your boys! They look like they were having a blast!

The Channel Islands are off the coast of California. We are *thinking* about staying in Ventura, CA, as that is where the boat takes off that will take us to the islands. But, the more I look, I think I can get us cheaper, somewhere else. Decisions decisions.

The boys were having a blast in that photo. It was taken just a couple days after Christmas in Galveston, TX. So, we drove THROUGH a snow storm to get there.. we felt like we were cheating.. it should be freezing cold, yet they were playing in the Gulf. As I walked away, while they were soaking wet (it was about 60 degrees in the water), I had to go to Walmart to buy them more pants, because I forgot to pack enough.. and these were obviously not going to work.. a man stopped me.. pointed to the few people in the water, and mumbled "Tourists". Indeed indeed.
