The Chatter: Welcome Newbies to blogging thread

Just wanted to get this going. I was thinking it would be a great place for everyone that is new to blogging to start asking questions and talking with each other. I haven't figured out how to add anyone to The Chatter yet so bear with me while I work on that.

Also, the chattywomen are working on user guides about what you should do with your blog and how to do it. I had the first one ready to go in Word but the file is too big to attach so I gotta work on that one. It should be up in the Members Q&A section tonight though. Topic will be how to join digg, how to digg a post, and why you want to digg posts. Next topic will be how to submit articles to digg. It should also be ready for tomorrow.

If you have anything you want to see made into a friendly user guide put it here and we will try to work on it and get it going. :sunshine:

I'm getting the fatal error when I try to access it. I've been over there reading everyone's getting a feel for it and tried to go into The Chatter.
Is that where the other entries will be??
Also is digg something we can sign up for now or do I have to wait until I "officially" have a blog?
Still trying to understand the differences between all the different sites. I think that's what has me more confused then the actual writing, linking and posting.

Basically The Chatter is going to be your starting off point. It is a blog "under" the ChattyWomen site. You'll get access there to start posting and then once you get going Tricia will go in and make you a blog of your own like Pink Ritas or Busy Mom where it is just you writing. It just takes her a while to set up each blog so she wants to make sure people will stick with it before she creates it.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this....but....how do I categorize some of my blogs? I only have 2 right now, but I can see how the categorizing thing might be nice. Catharine has several categories on the right side of hers, and I like that.

When you go in to write a blog post, to the right there is a box where you can check off categories and a text box above your existing categories. If you want to add one I just type it in there and click add.

When you are writing you can give your post more than one category by checking all the categories you want. Like for my WDW trip report I'm doing both "disney" and "travel".

Yes you do want to go ahead and start clicking and putting your blog in there to build up some traffic. It doesn't matter if you have 1 post or 50.

hmm. I wonder if widgets are set up yet for you. I have three options: themes, widgets, and cutline options. I'll do a screen print later just to double check with you.

This is a huge key to getting a lot of organic traffic to your blogs. Find something that is unique to talk about each week. Use the key words in your title and throughout the post a couple of times. Then digg it and let technorati pick it up.

I did it with Inspector Hector Plaque Rinse a couple of months ago and got hundreds of hits on it on both of my blogs. Last month I keyed in on "Indianapolis Easter Egg Hunts" on Helping Moms and literally got about 2000 hits from Google on it. This week I went after ABC and the Mole. Find timely things that not everyone else is blogging about and write solid posts about them. You'll be amazed how the traffic starts to snowball. :)

Yes. So the next post you have should have this toolbar at the bottom where we can teach you how to digg your posts from your blog directly.

Now onto your question from the other thread

Catherine that was a good explanation. Followed it through and managed to get something up there. I do have a question about whether or not you can put a link at the end of a post you have submitted so that people can link right to dugg.com from your post. If so, how do you do that?

Now if you want to digg directly from your blog (which is what most of us do to submit our post) you have to activate the widget in our blogs. It already is activated but for some reason it doesn't pick up unless you deactivate it and reactivate it. So follow the instructions I gave Angela a few posts back on that widget and you should start seeing it in your new posts.

From there you just look for the icon that is for digg (when you hover over the icons it will say which one is for which site). When you click on it you go straight to digg where you can submit it.

The Chatter currently only has one posting--that is the welcome or intro post. Any posts by generic posters that are not identified with a specific blog will be desiginated as being authored by "Chatty Women". Does that help?

Kim's the only one posting on the Chattywomen site right now besides the generic Tricia ones which you and I should be able to pick out pretty easily. No one has started on the Chatter yet but I did ask that when the did to sign a "pen" name at the bottom of the post so we'd know who was who.

I think you did well for your first post. Blogging can be so hard trying to get your thoughts and feelings across. I still am working on it with some of my posts. I think the only advice I can give you is keep writing because it gets so much easier the more you do it.

That's what I would say too....for a while even if it feels difficult or awkward, keep plugging away...it does get easier and easier

Your username is just for you to log in with. Your blog title is different - Its like a phrase or what you want to call your blog. So for instance my username would be m'nc if I wanted and my blog would be Pink Ritas. Sorta clear?

You don't have to switch back. I have been posting from code view since the weekend without any problems. What I use to do was write in visual, switch to code and paste the buzzfuze stuff in then hit publish from there. It all worked fine for me.

Thanks. I did a trouble ticket but don't remember if I put a desired password in. I had found a post that said I was to send her my name, blog name, subjects I was interested in and a bunch of other stuff. I did that on 3/26. Nah. Just check and see if there has been any change in your TT. You might be set up with a temp one and you can go in and change it later.

I would list them on past posts as you have time and then just be sure to put them on any you do in the future.

Hi and welcome. Ok So when you sign in you see your user panel correct? At the top left hand corner where you see chatty women there is a dropdown box click the down arrow and choose The Chatter. From there you will be sent to the Chatter's user panel where you can then choose "Write" and post your first blog.

Does that help or would visuals help? I can't do visuals right this moment but could throw some together within the next 2 hours.

Just go in and copy the referral link for your referral url. It will be on the referal link page on the main site. Then go into your Word press and hit manage and edit on the SR post you did. Once you go into there you should be able to right or left click (i cant remember which) and have a drop down show up with edit link. Click that and delete the url you have there and then paste in the one that you copied from SR.

Sure just copy your referral link from SR's website and then you'll highlight the words (sunshine rewards) and click the little chain picture and change the link that pops ups from the generic sunshinerewards one to your personal one....

I think I have it fixed now. If someone could go check to see if it works. When I use the link it goes to my SR, with my name "Welcom Angela". Want to make sure that it is right before I put it on Digg. Thanks!

5. Input data about your blog

I know what you are trying to do. Its that other one Kimberly. The mom's blog network or something. The one where you go and rate each other. I had it confused as well Angela until I found it by mistake the other day. shoot I only have the link in firefox and I don't have it open right now and Mike's dragging me to the grocery store. I have been blogging for chatty women for almost a month and although I don't want to sound anxious to get my own title I really am. Does anyone know how long this will take.

It can lead to problems. Copy & paste from word to notepad then copy and paste from notepad to your blog post. Apparently word has a bunch of crap coded into the background that can mess up blog posts.

No normally I just write mine and click on the right categories to fit it (you can create your own) and then click submit. Then I'll go back and "digg" it so that we can all vote for it.

Go to the sticky at the top of this section. See if that helps. There is an easier way but I don't have screen prints yet.

I would go ahead and sign up with clickthru next. You'll just want to build up your balance until you actually get your own blog, but they go fast and so it would help to have a nice size balance when you start.

I do not like Digg at all. It isn't user friendly to say the least. I am trying to add people and I can not for the life of me find out where to do this. When I go to add friends it only gives me the google, yahoo, aol options. Can anyone help.

Sure!! SOrry it's taken so long for a response Kim
If you log on to digg, go to Profile. There is a spot on the right hand side that says Friends, and under it a little pencil with "add friends"
If you click on that it brings you to the spot you are talking about with the aol and email contacts. You now either click on search for friends, if you have people's names or emails, or you can hit invite friends, and enter emails. Then those people will get email invite from you to join.
An easy way to get the rest of us in your friends is just to click on one of us (Cate Kimberly, Janet or myself.) We already have the others in our list, and you can just go down that and invite from our list.
Does that make sense?
