Good morning!
Lots of news in our blogging. After looking at the stats and talking to our hosting company, we have decided that we are going to have to make a few changes. I've talked to Cindy, Angie, and Kevin, and here is what we decided:
1) New Forum: As you can see, I've started a forum dedicated to our blogging. This will help keep everything in one place and keep non-blogging members from getting confused.
2) New Server: Because of the tremendous amount of traffic coming into the blogs as a result of the directories, clickthru, etc., we are going to have to have a major server upgrade this weekend. Kevin will have to move the entire SR forum and all of the blogs. More news on that once they get the new server purchased and set up.
3) Open access to stats. I'll be giving you the links to the stats pages so that you can start checking them our yourselves. :)
4) Spam plugin. I've noticed a lot of pretty dirty comment spam lately, so I will be doing some upgrades that should automatically sort out the majority of that spam for you so that you don't have so many non-legit comments to go through. The more popular your blog gets in the search engines, the more you will appreciate the spam filter!!
5) A new distinction between the blogs. This is the biggest change on your end.
Free Blogs: These will be the blogs that have only text, SR referral links, SR Netwinner referral links, and free widgets. Essentially the people who are just blogging for fun and not making any money off of it.
Paid Blogs: These will be the blogs that are doing clickthru, PPP, Amazon affiliate links, etc. These will be $10 a month starting in May.
Why the fees? First of all, we now have to pay for a bigger server each month. It wasn't a big deal for me to host the blogs for free when I could just use the SR forum server. But the traffic is now too big for that server as a result of the blogs. Second, the amount of time that it is taking to keep the wordpress updated, the plugins updated, etc. Things like adding the ability for you to embed youtube in your posts. Adding plugins so that you can use widgets. All of that kind of stuff.
Hopefully this all makes sense. I know that some of you are really getting into the blogging now and that is terrific! We'll continue to do what we need to do on our end to make the site great.
