I am not sure if there is a thread like this yet and I hope it's okay to post this. I saw a couple of other people said they like to scrapbook and I LOVE to scrapbook, so I though we could post some of our layouts here to share.

Would you like me to set up a forum specifically for scrapping? I would be happy to do that if enough people are interested! We have some great scrap stores that I am sure would be happy to sponsor it.

THe layouts are beautiful. I wish I had the time to scrapbook. I keep saying that as soon as both of my kids are in school that is what I am going to fill my days with. I would love to see more.

I'm one of those people who buys all the stuff and masses of paper and sometimes even get the photos sorted to a point, and then never seems to find the time to finish an album! I'm determined to get some of them done this summer!

Thanks everyone, those are just a few of my layouts, I have about 50 digital ones and making more everyday, and about 100 paper ones. I absolutely love to scrap. Digital is fun. But I like paper better because I like getting my hands dirty, lol.

I LOVE scrapbooking but haven't done any in about 6 months. Now that both boys are in school and activities the ME time seems to be almost nonexistant. I used to go cropping at a scrap store near me but it closed about a year ago. I need to get back into it and scrap my Disney pics from Nov.
This may get me jumpstarted! Thanks

I have done scrapbooks for both of the boys' 1st years, and hope to with the little girl coming, too. Only thing is, it took me 6 months to get started on DS#2's book - and then it took 2 months to get all caught up. After which I promptly fell behind again! I have had such fun doing them, tho - I like to work with the paper, stickers, ribbons, buttons, etc whatever all I can think of to fancy up the page a little bit.
I guess I'm not really a true scrapbooker tho - because those are basically the only 2 I have done. Just don't have time to do one for every occasion, or for every year of the kids' lives. (Altho I do write on their calendars and save them.) Maybe I should check out the digital way - maybe that would be simpler for doing other albums.
Anyway, a scrapbooking forum would be fun!!

Loved seeing your layouts jenvance!!!
I am a long-time scrapbooker, but haven't done much in the last year or so. I used to meet once a week with my Mom and sister to scrap. But then the kids started having homework and stuff and it just got hard for me to go out on a weeknight. I also don't have a spot where I can work and leave all my stuff out and the kids will leave it alone. So anyways, I've gotten away from it. I would love to get into digital scapbooking though. I think that might be the answer for me. I'm curious what software you use. I ordered the Scrapbook Factory Deluxe from Avanquest. (What did you get Lisa?) Haven't used it yet because it's supposed to be a Mother's Day gift.....it's driving me crazy waiting!!!
Lisa you talked about having an online crop. I had never heard of that before, but I was just looking at A Cherry On Top (SR merchant) and to celebrate National Scrapbooking Day they are having an all-weekend online crop. Sounds like a lot of fun. Just thought some of you might be interested.

If I learn how to scan the large pages, I'll share them. There is a new machine that allows you to do that, but I can't think of the name right now. I'll have to look it up again.

I, too love scrapbooking! Since I've had the twins, I no longer have a room to leave out all of my stuff either. I bought the same software as you and another one too, can't remember which one right now. LOL.
There is always an online scrapping party going on. I've yet to participate, but I would think it's done like the videoblogging Tricia is now doing.
I haven't scrapped in a while either. I keep looking at last summers vacation stack that I've started on and saying, I'm coming to finish you soon! LOL. The hardest is actually getting up and starting, because once you do that then the motivation will definitely kick in and you can't stop!

Well, first your photos have to be hosted somewhere. A lot of people use Photobucket. I like slide.com. I think Shutterfly or Snapfish would probably work too. For some reason Kodak Gallery does not.
Once the photo is hosted somewhere, you just right click on it and choose "properties". Copy the URL for the photo. Then come back here and in your reply click on the little yellow square at the top that looks like it has mountains in it. Paste the URL there and click "OK."
It's pretty easy, but let me know if you need more help!

Great layouts everyone!! Love to look through all of them!!
Eaglesdare...love the page with the mickey head shape design...think it was your first one...gotta remember that for my next Disney album. I also LOVE the piglet one..I really like the combination of the black and white printed paper with the pinks. I HAVE to use that for something!!
Jill...thanks so much for posting how to post a picture. I will have to try that soon. I used to scap in 8 1/2 by 11, so I was able to scan my layouts. I just started 12 x 12 for our disney album and I really do enjoy it. (just cannot scan them..so I will have to take pictures). I am VERY behind on my scrapbooking and have occasionally gone out of order (I have done a few pages at crops that were more recent because I couldn't wait to get to them!!). Now I need to catch up on the "in between" stuff that I skipped - so I will be going back to the 8 1/2 by 11 size until I am caught up. Then I think I will do all 12 by 12. ANYWAY... I will post my Disney album..almost done - just about 10 more pages. Might even work on them today as my mothers day gift to myself. My digital camera broke (gasp!!) BUT the part that is not working is under a recall so I will be getting it repaired from Canon for free (yeah!) AND...I am getting a brand new digital SLR for my 40th birthday on Tuesday!! :cooldance:
So long story short..I will post when I have the abilities... I think I have had too much coffee today...very long winded!:)

Jillyfish that is wonderful. i may have to look into your program! love the embellishments. did all of them come with the program?
Thanks! Yep, all the embellishments come with the software. There are literally thousands of elements you can use. I was actually thinking today that I might do a review of the software for the videoblog contest. But I need to wait until tomorrow when I'm home by myself.
does your program automactiacally adjust the size of your photo? or did you resize it yourself?
If you mean the actual photo for the page......You can manually resize them to any size you want just by dragging on the corner of the photo and making it bigger or smaller.
If you mean the whole page.....when you save a finished page you have the option to save it as a jpg. and choose the size you want it to be to share online.
Does that answer your question?

So what is involved with making digital pages? Like what kind of paper do you need to buy - plain? can you use patterned? What about photos are they printed on the page or do you still print those? Do you leave room for real embleshments or just use digital ones? I'm really intrigued by these things. I might get more scrapbooking done if I go digital.

digital is so much fun. i do digital, tradional and a combo of each. some of my digitals i use real embellishments.
i print on photo quality glossy papers. for my 12 x 12 pages i use 13x19 paper i get from red river paper. (i wished they could be one of our merchants). but i think best buy sells 12 x 12 but it is not glossy, however, i have used it and the pages come out great.
some people do not have a wide format printer, so they do 8.5 x 11 pages, which i have done a few of.
there are lots and lots of FREE digital kits out there.
if you have a photo editing program, you can do digital! do you have photoshop or elements, gimp, something like that? if you do and have a specific question, ask away.
also when printing, your photos and papers and embellishments are printed right on your paper.
m 'n c
05-13-2008, 09:45 PM
Thanks! So I guess these programs have paper patterns built in to choose from? This is so neat.
So I have a question. At the end of the day do you spend more, less, or the same amount of time and money as traditional scrapbooking? Just wondering how it compares.
eaglesdare
05-14-2008, 09:52 AM
digital in my opinion is cheaper.
there are tons of free kits out there. papers/words/overlays/embellishments, very nice kits.
purchase free kits = $0
reuse kits over and over and over again = $0
initially however, you need an editing program. my elements cost was approx $80 (give or take, i bought it several years ago and really can't remember, but it was less than $100. although, i believe gimp is a program that is free to download. i have heard very good things about this program, it is suppose to be comparable to photoshop. i had elements so i have never used it. but it would be my choice if i had no program.
printing is another story. if you print yourself, it can and will be expensive. i am a freak about having control over my printed pages and photos, so i do print myself. but that is me. there are companies out there that does printing, not sure of the prices though. a friend of mine just printed i think 10 or 20 pages for a really good price, but i would have to look it up and see what she said was her cost. but it was a great deal, if you are interested in that. let me know and iwill check her site and get a cost for you.
i think all traditional people will say eventually it is expensive. at least for me it is. i can't go to a store to buy scrapbooking supplies and come out with less than $200 a visit.
papers packs can run around $15. and once you use it, you have no more paper. embellishment 3d stickers packs can run about $5 a pack for just a few stickers. individual papers can run around 33 cents to $1.00.
these prices are approx for what i have seen.
then there are the added costs of supplies: crikets (die cutting machines) the cheapest i have found was $184. cartridges for it $50 to $100. silhouette (die cutting machine) $300 or more? (i just got one of them from qvc with 4 payment plan).
paper cutters, circle cutters, punches, flower embellishemnts, ribbons, buttons, brads ets. yes it can add up and can be expensive.
my husband looked in my room the other day and made the comment "you have a lot of money invested in this room?" lol yes i do.
digital: turn on computer, open program, make your layout, print yourself or send off to print. done. no mess, close program, shut down computer.
traditional, break out all the papers, scissors, cutters, using your kitchen table, kitchen chairs, and counter tops. get all your photos out, crop photos, decide on papers and get the adhesives out, then throw the cat off the papers, stop yelling at the children for playing with your stickers and putting them on the wall. clear up everything to make lunch and have a place to eat. try to place your photos and decide how you want the layout. and then eventually put every thing away, because you are frustrated. lol
the program jellyfish uses does have the papers and embellishments. it is a scrapbooking program. the program i use, i have to download the kits (papers, embellishments).
hope i am helping you to some extent.

on my first pic on page 3, the one with the mickey head. that frame and the mickey head was digital. printed and then i cut it out and stuck it to the papers. the journaling also was done digitally then cut out and added to paper.
so you see, there really is all kinds of ways to do scrapbooking.
you can get expensive, or stay cheap.
i honestly think the program that jellyfish has would be good to start with, if scrapbooking is your major thing you want out of it.
when i got my elements, i wanted a photo editing program, my major concern was being able to manipulate my pics (at the time, i had never even heard of digital scrapbooking)

Eagle has given you a ton of information. I like them both, I like digital, because I can always start over without ruining my pictures. I like digital because it is a lot cheaper. There are tons of free websites that give such digital programs. But you can get lost in time playing on the computer just like you can at home. Unfortunately my desk computer is not working right now so I have been just paper scrapping.

Wow! Thanks for all the info. I don't have any photo editing software nor any scrapbooking software. I'll have to look into both of those and then go from there. I think this could be a really fun way for me to start scrapbooking again because fooling with the layouts is what takes the longest and at the end of the 2 hours I spent I have about 1 or 2 pages made.

Thank you! It's so easy and really fun. I'm very happy with the way the pages are turning out. And I can do them so much faster. With traditional scrapbooking, I would've spent a ton of time and money at the scrapbook store finding the right papers and things I want to use. I've already gotten my money's worth out of this software!

I agree Jill they are awesome and your selling me on it also. Would be a way to get back into gear, even if I had 2 full rubbermaid bins full of scrapbooking stuff! :)
Amy and I were talking about it the other day and I know you mentioned it somewhere else but how do you put them in an album when you print them off? I'm still debating, bc I would more then likely upload them and have someone else print them off but I'm not sure I would want them to place them in an album or just print htem and I do it.
Are you just putting them in a binder with sheet protectors or using CM?
Thanks!
PS the one with Imagine of DD after BBB is just adorable!

Well, a few years ago I was using some different software (not nearly as good as this) and I would either print them off myself or save them on a disc and take them to Kinkos or Office Max. I'd have them printed as color copies (not photos) on a heavier weight paper. I use page protectors for all my pages....traditional and digital....and put them in 3-ring albums. I haven't actually tried printing any of these new ones out yet. So far I'm just saving them on my computer.
I've thought about having them made into photo books. Haven't really looked into it yet. But I'm thinking it would be more expensive.
Thanks for the compliments!

Thanks Jill! That's how my traditional are stored. A friend of mine covered 3 ring binders for me with fabric I picked out and batting to give them a differnet look and I just buy page protecters for them. THat's what I started with so I'm going to try and finish using what I have before I decide which route to go.

jellyfish, i love your pages. you are selling me on the scrapbooking factory software. lol even though i can do it on elements. but i think with you program it would save me some time, as i would not have to go searching for my digi kits and elements i would like to use.
although, i bet you still have to search for what you want to use, even with your kits. but hey, i don't mind adding to my stash of scraping supplies! lol
i have put a hold on buying things til after june. we are going to disney then and i really need to save money for that.
i did just buy the silhouette though. hehehe haven't used it yet though.

jenvance..wonderful pages. do you print or get your printed? just curious as to what size you make yours. i personally only use the one photo layouts for my smaller books, 8x8. so i am curious. i feel like i am wasting space if i do a 12x12 with only one pic.

I agree, one photo, is 8x8 or 8 1/2 x 11, If I use more than one pic I use 12 x 12. I used to only use 12 x 12 but I have just begun to play with smaller sizes and they are just as great!! I am really bad with printing though. Some I have printed at home, I eventually plan on getting them all printed, I have made so many. Do you paper scrap as well? We should do a digi crop or something or challenge each other.

yes i do both, and a combination of both. would love to get a challenge here, we do one on another site i belong to, disney related. but i probably will not be scrapping til after we return from our trip. i just haven't been able to feel it, i am just too wrapped up in disney planning. lol

Great layouts!!! You guys are motivating me to get busy- I have really gottne behind!! I bought the Photo Impact software from Avanquest, but haven't even opened it yet! I have a super busy week with my son's birthday and birthday cakes lol. (I put a lot of pressure on myself to make great cakes for him- this year is "Toy Story Maniac" :rotfl:) But after this week, I am going to join the rest of you! I have never really done digital layouts, but am VERY interested in starting!!
Keep posting- I love looking at scrap pages!!!

Hey guys would yall be opposed to doing new threads for each of our layouts/books? I'm just wondering if it might be easier to get ideas if we each kept our books to our own thread. Plus we could get some more threads going down here and help this section grow instead of one massive thread :)
I'm still uploading pics but I have gotten them all taken. Man you can definitely tell the ones I did first and the ones I have done recently. There is a huge quality difference!

See, I'm scared to start the digital scrapping because I may never get them printed. For some reason or another I love the bulkiness that traditional pages offer! LOL.
You guys are great motivators! I really need to get it in gear and finish my current project- Disney Vacation 2007. I definitely want to be finished before we take vacation in July of this year!

When I do the 12x12 and use only one picture, I normally enlarge it to maybe a 5x7 that way more space is taken up.

I think what I'm going to do is do the basic layout with pictures and such and then when I have them printed add stickers and buttons/brads/etc to make it a mix of both.

Ok I just checked and I can move posts around down here but I don't want to step on toes. So with that said I'm going to start a new thread for my stuff since I have quite a few pictures and don't want to take over here. If anyone else wants to start their own thread and copy posts over or move them completely they can just let me know and I'll be glad to help.

Don't know how I missed this thread. I love all the ideas I'm getting though, and the motivation! I still haven't finished "our" book. I'm only up to our wedding, haven't even gotten to the honeymoon, and it's coming up on 3 years! I have to finish this one before we have kids and I have to work on theirs! LOL I'm also really curious about this digital scrapping. I'll have to look into it. I'm loving everyone's layouts. Might have to put some of mine on here.
