Ok I'm intrigued now. Will someone please please please post a brief synopsis on it for me.

The Time Traveler's Wife is the love story of Henry and Clare DeTamble, a young married couple living in Chicago. Their lives together are complicated by a mystifying and exasperating genetic condition that causes Henry to involuntarily time travel. While Clare is left wondering if the man she always knew she would marry is safe from harm, Henry is taken on journies that are unpredictable, and alternately harrowing and amusing. While Henry strains to live as normal a life as he can, pursuing goals that will be familiar to most — a steady job, love, good friends, children of his own — Clare has always known that their love was pre-destined, having already met Henry as a young girl when he would time travel from their present to her past before they met.

Their bizarre life and the challenges they face are the same burdens that ultimately we all must deal with the inability to have control over their lives. However, what Henry's affliction does provide them is a glimpse to their final hours and to the novel's breathtaking ending. The Time Traveler's Wife is a story about adoration, separation, and ultimately about how time defines so much in our lives.

I'm going to have to use my flylady technique of setting timers... 15 minutes to do offers, 15 minutes to check email, 15 minutes to chat in the forum, 15 minutes to play tetris... and 15 minutes to read in between each, LOL! Forget about housework and dishes!!

After hearing how much everyone loved it, I now need to read it. :) I've been on a Jodi Picoult kick lately. I love her books but they always have me sobbing (not crying softly, freaking full on sobbing :) ) I can't wait to read this book now. Thanks for bringing it up. I'm always looking for a good read.

OMG! I just finished this book a couple days ago and I loved it! I bought it through QPB because of your recommendation on another thread so thank you. I didn't just cry at the end, I sobbed. Now my mom has the book so I'm very curious to hear her opinion.

I just finished this one last night. Loved the book but was very sad. I'm glad yall "warned" me that people were crying because I couldn't take it any longer on Sat night and flipped through and found the ending and did ok reading the rest since I was prepared. Funny thing though is that on Sat night I couldn't sleep (why I have no idea I had nothing to be stressed or anxious over) so I stayed up till 3:30am reading the book and then it started to get kinda sad so I flipped through to the end and cried a little then. I had to make myself try to go to sleep so I wouldn't start full out crying.

LOL Catherine, you sound like me...I was the same way...I had to read all fast just to get to the good stuff. And then when I got there, cried like a baby. :p

Oh I'll admit it...I sobbed! I sobbed like I did w/the Notebook...so I find it very interesting that Rachel McAdams was in the Notebook & I sobbed & I hope they do this book just as much justice so I can sob again!

I guess I"d rather sob at a book than my own life...which gets plenty of tears all on its own!! :0)

It will be very interesting to see how this movie turns out. The only way I can see it working to make sense is to have it all from Clare's point of view. I think flipping back and forth during a movie would be sorta confusing.

The movie doesn't release until November 2008.:( (however it could be a rumor) BUT....Looky Looky what I found...http://imdb.com/media/rm2892732672/tt0452694

I really can't wait, but in some way I am starting to get a little nervous as to how the movie is going to live up to the book. MAN, I really wish all of you girls lived closer so we could all have a movie night together, and go for some drinks afterwards to discuss this one. :)

I have not read the book. You girls are getting me intrigued. I do not like sad endings though.....So I am a bit apprehensive. I feel like I cry enough in my own life, that I don't need an excuse to cry again....

The only sad movie I have liked was Somersby. I even have to leave the room in the sad spots of Bambi and the mother/dumbo scene in Dumbo.

Is it worth the cry????

YES, YES, and YES!!!!! Ironically, I did not like Somersby. I did, however, love Gone With the Wind... the saddest ending of all time.

I think so. If you are like me and flip to the end before finishing you won't cry as much.

I have not read this book either. It sounds like it is sooo good. I guess I will have to add it to my list and read it as soon as I find some time. From the sounds of it I better make sure that I have plenty of time because I am the type that once I start a good book I can't put it down until I am done. DH hates it when I am reading a book. I have been known not to do anything until I finish the book.

Wow! I think Eric Bana was a good choice to play Henry. I have the same misgivings as you V. I am usually disappointed in movies based on novels that I love. I hope this one doesn't disappoint.

OK as an avid book reader you ladies have just added another book to my list.
The gals and I went to see The Kite Runner last week we read it a year ago or more for book club. Book was defintely better, but I only cried once in the book, I BAWLED many tmes during the movie, more at the end then the one part. We're going to see Juno tomorrow night and I just saw someone tonight who said she cried at ths one too! Ugh!

Actually it came out like 3-4 weeks ago, and it was only a short stint in the theatre's although I'm not sure why. We were planning mid Jan to go and deciding between our local theatre and a Regal but when we finally picked a date it wasn' tplaying at Regal anymore and we got in on the last night at a little local theatre. We all thought it was great, so I'm not sure why it wasn't out for very long.
