I booked a surprise trip for July '09 for the family on the Diney cruise. I used a travel agent...which I am not a fan of because I like the control but that is another issue!
Can I use Disney gift cards and Disney Visa Rewards to pay through the travel agent? Or can I call Disney direct to use those?

When we went on the cruise we used our Disney Dollars and Visa Rewards on the cruise itself. Since everything on the cruise is charged to your room account, they just went towards our final bill. I could be wrong, but I don't think there's any other way to use them, of course if you're thinking "down payment" kind of thing it could be possible that Disney could take a gift card # over the phone and apply it? Doubt that the travel agent can take anything though. Not sure if this helps, but that's my thinking. Just save them for the cruise itself. I'm sure there's plenty you'll spend on board.

I was afraid of that...I was trying to pay the cruise off without DH knowing and this way he wouldn't! I will try to contact the TA tomorrow.

I used SR Disney Gift Cards to pay the $400 deposit for the Sunshine Cruise. I just gave Gail the card numbers over the phone and she applied them for me. I've never used Visa Rewards so I'm not sure on those, but you should have no problem using Disney Gift Cards.
What a great vacation for your hubby -- Happy Planning!

I have never used a travel agent, so I'm not really sure on that part. Can you access your reservation online through the Disney Cruise site? I know that I went online to make a payment on our reservation and the payment options were Disney Rewards Card, Disney Gift Card or Credit Card. So, if you are able to access it that way it might work. But like I said, I'm not sure when there is a travel agent involved.
What a neat surprise!!!!:sunshine:

I would think that you could just have your gift cards applied to your balance via your TA. I would call to double check but I would assume it would be the same type of thing as booking a WDW vacation and using gift cards to pay your balance with.

All payments would have to go through the TA, I believe. I know that when you book that way, you can access your reservation on the DCL site but there isn't ANY payment information at all. You are at the mercy of the TA letting you know your balance. However, some TAs do have that information accessible on their own sites.
I've used several gift cards to pay for my next cruise and just email the agent the numbers and she applies them. I imagine it would be up to the agent, though, if they wanted to accept them.

Both of the agents I've used for Disney cruises have applied Disney gift cards and also Disney rewards cards to pay on your balance. Disney accepts them as payment, so I don't think it matters if your agent wants to or not. If they don't I'd be finding another agent PDQ. Gail from American Express (SR cruise agen) has been wonderful, applying a gift card here, credit card there... whenever I have a few bucks and whatever form of payment I have to pay down my balance. And she always sends an email confirmation showing all of my payments after each transaction.
You can also use gift cards and rewards dollars for your onboard account once you're on the cruise. We had about half and half for our last onboard account... and only $11 on the visa after gift cards and rewards dollars were applied left over :)
Congrats on booking your surprise trip!!!
